Old Fashioned Milk Paint 'Sweet Pickins' is the faithful recreation of an ancient homemade paint formula, containing just milk protein (casein), lime and natural earth or mineral pigments, making it eco friendly, non-toxic, VOC-free, food-safe & biodegradable. 

Loved by woodworkers, furniture restorers and upcyclers, it is used as an authentic period finish on restored or reproduction furniture or other wood projects, to achieve vintage colour in a flat, chalky finish, quite unlike any other paint.

Milk paint arrives in powder form to be mixed with water. It is very easy to use; mix one part powder to one part water for a solid finish, add more water for a colourwash or less for stencilling. When applied to a porous surface such as wood, milk paint sinks in and provides a breathable coating that will never chip or peel.  With Extra Bond Agent you can use Milk Paint on non-porous surfaces too, such as previously painted or varnished furniture. Without the Extra Bond, Milk Paint will resist some pre-finished or pre-painted surfaces to achieve a naturally distressed or “chippy” look that Louise loves.
